The Foshay Tower was the first skyscraper built west of the Mississippi and remained the tallest building in Minneapolis from 1929-1971. The Foshay Tower is significant to Minneapolis and the State of Minnesota not only as a unique example of architectural design and engineering, but as a prominent reminder of the taste and expression of "conspicous consumption" which was felt throughout the United States during the economic boom years of the 1920s.

The Foshay Museum and Observation Deck is located inside the Foshay Tower, the site of the hotel W Minneapolis - The Foshay.
